The Origin

A Quiet Discovery in Jamaica's Interior

In the quiet, mineral-rich interior of Jamaica, where the soil is deep and the air carries memory, a rare botanical took root. This was not a plant cultivated by industry or designed by laboratory. It emerged, as the most extraordinary things do, from the land itself — slowly, deliberately, and entirely unlike anything known before.

From this landscape emerged McGhie Jamaica Cinnamon Ginger (McGhie JCG™) — a cultivar of Alpinia officinarum, unlike any other. Not cultivated at scale, not replicated, not rushed. Only grown. Only gathered. Only revealed in time.

“It was not simply recognition. It was definition.”

In 2015, this singular botanical was granted U.S. Plant Patent PP26,408 — the first of its kind awarded to a Jamaican in more than half a century. A declaration that this plant — its structure, its character, its very existence — belongs to no other place, and no other hands. The intellectual property sits at the genetic level, meaning it cannot be cultivated or commercialised by any other party without a licence. There is no equivalent source.

The Expression

An Infusion Not Merely Consumed,
But Experienced

Layered. Aromatic. Quietly complex.

Colour

Liquid Amber

Each cup pours a rich, luminous amber — the shade of aged honey held to candlelight. Clear and deep in equal measure, it catches the light like something precious.

Aroma

Warm & Botanical

The first breath is warm spice and fresh earth — cinnamon bark and ginger root with a green, herbaceous undertone that recalls the Jamaican highland air at dawn.

Flavour

Layered Warmth

It opens with a gentle spice, deepens into a rounded, resinous warmth, and closes with a refined, lingering sweetness. No bitterness. No sharpness. Only balance.

Finish

Quietly Enduring

The finish remains long after the cup is set down — a soft, warming resonance that invites stillness. Caffeine free. Restorative by nature.

Deep amber. Gilded vessel. An experience made visible.
The Science Within

McGhie JCG™

Beneath Its Beauty Lies Structure

McGhie Jamaica Cinnamon Ginger (McGhie JCG™) is a distinct cultivar of Alpinia officinarum — a species within the Zingiberaceae (ginger) family traditionally used across Asia for its medicinal properties.

Phytochemical characterisation was conducted by the University of California, Davis (UC Davis), confirming a rich composition of bioactive compounds including diarylheptanoids, flavonoids, and volatile oils.

“Ongoing research continues to explore its deeper potential — bridging the space between ancient botanical wisdom and modern scientific inquiry.”
